Story Garden Privacy

Story Garden does not require a child account. Reading progress, favourites, rewards, the Reading Buddy name, and settings are stored locally in the browser on the device.

Private first-party analytics

Story Garden uses privacy-conscious analytics hosted on the same Tinkilo server to understand site use and improve the reading experience. The system keeps pseudonymous visitor, session, and reading-attempt records and uses them to produce aggregate reports. Reports may include approximate unique visitors, day-based return rates, sessions, page views, estimated engaged time, general device and browser categories, referral domains, app versions, public-story engagement, clicks from public stories into the reading app, reading attempts started, resumed, or completed, and use of features such as pronunciation help.

Comprehension reporting is limited to aggregate measures such as whether an answer was correct, whether it was correct on the first attempt, and the amount of support used. The system does not send or store the question prompt, the selected answer, the expected answer, or story text. Pages are recorded as pathnames only, without URL query strings. Referrers are reduced to domains before they are sent.

The system does not store raw IP addresses, names, email addresses, Reading Buddy names, typed feedback, advertising identifiers, full referrer URLs, or cross-site tracking data. Browser-generated visitor, session, and reading-attempt identifiers are securely hashed on the server. A small pending event queue may be kept temporarily in this browser so events can be retried after an offline period or temporary server problem; it is removed as events are sent and cleared when analytics is disabled.

A session rotates after 30 minutes without activity. Estimated engaged time is based on short intervals while the page is visible and recently used, so it is an approximation rather than an exact stopwatch. Analytics records are retained for the period configured by the site administrator and are then pruned. Browser Do Not Track is respected.
